What basis are you hired on?
Bottom Line Research is hired on a contract
basis for each assignment.
How much do you charge?
We like to negotiate a flat fee arrangement with
you, or you can simply cap the time that can be
spent on an assignment. Our hourly rate is $175.
Who can retain your services?
We act for solo, small, and specialized firm
practitioners and also serve larger law firms,
corporations and government and other agencies.
How do I give instructions?
Feel free to just call Barb and give
instructions over the phone. If you prefer you
may send an email or a memorandum of
instructions.
How do I get started?
Simply contact
Barb Cotton and let her know what you need.
How long will it take?
There are a number of research lawyers on staff
so a fast turnaround can usually be arranged. At
this time Bottom Line Research does not charge a
premium in order to meet a tight deadline. A
typical turnaround time from retainer to
delivery of the research product is ten days to
two weeks. The turnaround time for a written
brief or factum is longer, and approximates
three weeks to one month. Simple requests for a
quick search and reporting letter with cases can
be readily accommodated.
What are the payment terms?
We ask for payment within 30 days of invoice. A
retainer may be requested.
How is the research product delivered?
In most cases we like to email you an electronic
copy of the research product in Word and PDF and email the
authorities by way of attachment. We are happy to meet your needs
as to product delivery format.
What about confidentiality?
All Bottom Line Research lawyers are bound by
and respect a lawyer’s duty of confidentiality.
How does Bottom Line Research handle
conflicts of interest?
Bottom Line maintains a computerized conflicts
database. A conflicts check is conducted before
the assignment is discussed and any potential
conflicts are disclosed to you immediately. In
the event of a conflict Bottom Line will decline
the assignment and will recommend another
competent research lawyer to assist you.
