A Municipal Statutes Review
Committee was established in 1987 in Alberta
with a mandate to examine the emerging trends in
the province and elsewhere and “make
recommendations on legislation appropriate to
Alberta municipal government in the last decade
of the 20th century and into the 21st century.”
In March of 1991 the Committee submitted its
final report, entitled Municipal Government
in Alberta, A Municipal Government Act for the
21st Century, to the Minister of Municipal
Affairs, and a Bill incorporating the proposals
for a new Municipal Government Act is targeted
for introduction to the Legislative Assembly of
Alberta in the spring of 1992.
